WHO WE ARE

Kāinga Ora Voice for the voiceless began as a collective group of people frustrated by Kāinga Ora, the government and the state of public housing. We aim to get accountability, not only from Kāinga Ora for failing in their legal requirements as a landlord and misusing taxpayers money, but also from the Labour government who set the Healthy Homes Standards that came into law on July 1 2019. As of June 2021, only 11,000 Kāinga Ora homes meet the HHS. Kāinga Ora have over 68,000 homes in stock. How are the government and Kāinga Ora going to ensure the remaining 57,000 homes meet the standards in the next two years when it's taken 2 years to get 11,000 homes up to standard?

We are aware there is a huge stigma against Kāinga Ora tenants and there is the perception that Kāinga Ora tenants should be grateful they even have a roof over their heads. Not only is this unacceptable treatment of Kāinga Ora tenants, but it also highlights how out of touch the general public is with the realities of public housing. We aim to challenge people who think this way by providing proof that Kāinga Ora are not using taxpayer's money effectively. We will show communication issues within Kāinga Ora, where one job is given to different companies or where contractors are turning up to houses without an appointment.

Here at Kāinga Ora Voice for the Voiceless we have tried to provide as safe a space as possible for Kāinga Ora tenants to share their stories whilst remaining anonymous and free from public, media and government backlash. All we ask, is you corroborate your claims with evidence. Reach out to us if you need any help obtaining your private information from Kāinga Ora.
