We have a huge amount of kids in emergency housing, often moved to the other side of town. We transport 145 kids from motels to schools around Rotorua every morning, just to get them there. That's up from 68 children in March and it's just the ones we know about - some parents feel too embarrassed about their situation to say anything.

The state landlord refuses to say whether it has asked for an extension to its 2023 deadline to get state housing stock up to the Government’s new Healthy Homes standards.
Kainga Ora already has a different timeframe to make sure their 68,000 public homes meet the Government’s new Healthy Homes standards, which mandate requirements for heating, insulation, and ventilation.
