It absolutely blows my mind that the Labour government have rewarded lawbreakers with plans to build a $785 million bridge that they expect 5000 people a day to use. Based on my calculations of charging users $4 a day return, it is going to take over 100 years for the cost of the bridge to be repaid, and that's only if they don't blow out the budget, which we know always happen.
What about the thousands of people living in inadequate government owned housing?
Not only is it ridiculous to reward unlawful behaviour it's a slap in the face to all the people sitting in cold, damp houses because it shows the government puts unnecessary infrastructure before people. The government HAVE NOT done enough to address the unhealthy living conditions in KO homes that KO clients face. The fact more than 80% of their houses fails to meet the Healthy Homes Standards that THEY set even though they gave themselves 2 years more time than private landlords says a lot. If the government chooses to use Covid as an excuse for why so few houses have been done, I hope they're extending that same courtesy to private landlords? They don't honestly think they're the only ones who have been affected by Covid, do they? And if the government give KO an extension because they have a nationwide shortage on heatpumps (Not really, its only a shortage on the 700 watt ones they prefer to use, there are lots of heatpumps available, a 20 second search on Trademe shows lots of new ones), they're also going to give private landlords the same courtesy as well right? Because at the end of the day, What's good for the goose is good for the gander......
